Data is the New Oil

The Chief Economic Advisor has stated in the Economic Survey of India 2018-19 that data is the new oil and he understands the importance of data in real life. Today, it is this overwhelming data which excites and brings out secrets that were hidden in the form of relationships established after the mathematical model is designed by taking the data as input. Finding ways to quickly convert the data into information and insights can be highly daunting and may haunt by creating the wrong model which can fail the test cases.

As the enterprises are completely aware have claimed that 14 percent are creating the data and using it for the right perspectives to build better AI models for forecasting the future by better neural networks. Recently a report stated that better integration of Big data can save up to 300 billion USD globally at least in the health care sector.

Intellectuals Power

Finding insights by turning Excel data into pivot tables or charts used to be out of reach for many employees. Now, ideas in Excel delivers AI-powered insights to help people take advantage of the full power of Office 365.

'Ideas help identify trends, patterns, and outliers in a data set and provide suggestions on the best charts to present the insights—helping employees analyze and display their data in seconds and enabling better, faster decisions.

Power BI has long been a pioneer in applying AI through capabilities such as natural language search, which enables employees to get answers by asking questions in plain English, or Quick Insights, which automatically finds patterns in data.

By harnessing the power of AI, employees can perform complex tasks that typically require technical know-how—keyphrase extraction, sentiment analysis, understanding drivers, creating machine learning models—with just a few clicks and without code. For example, sophisticated, pre-trained machine learning models incorporated into Power BI provide employees with powerful ways to extract information from sources like documents, images, and even social media feeds.

Why Microsoft AI?

No brand is successful unless they don't explore the 'Why' of bringing new products into the market. Microsoft explores the same to make consumers get deliberately impressed and attracted to the work of this genuine masterpiece. Microsoft knew if the AI has to be taken out as a tool they should have huge bulk of data set captured from various platforms.

They adopted various methods and tapped the data from:
  • 2.5 billion users from Bing
  • 500 million users from LinkedIn
  • 180 million users from Commercial Microsoft 365
  • 800 million using Windows 10 device

Microsoft worked over its cloud platform i.e. Microsoft Azure to bring the enhanced connectivity of hardware and software.  This massive computing power stored huge chunks of data for processing by serving all around the clock to give the best experience. To give better explorations and analysis of the data which has been collected from various sources made things to get used up by Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Graph. Built on top of Azure, this Nexus brought various success in recent times from Speech Recognition to Image Recognition and from Machine reading comprehension to Machine translation with human parity.

Successful change doesn’t happen in an instant. In a recent study, ForbesInsights highlighted the need to create an AI-ready culture. The idea of using AI technology to augment current skills and processes will not be easy for everyone in your organization to accept, so an effective adoption plan can be a big help. Forbes Insights recommends the following steps to maximize your investment:

  • Focus on business needs
  • Place AI in the hands of knowledge workers
  • Implement education and training programs
  • Appoint AI champions

Microsoft believes Everyday AI in Microsoft 365 can immediately help employees and companies to achieve more by providing intelligent technologies that focus on business needs and empowering knowledge workers.
