Vivo V9 - Selfie iPhone X

Buy Here (Flipkart)

This was launched in March 2018 and back then it was Vivo's flagship device. This device is selling at approx Rs.13,500 on Flipkart's Big Billion Day and I am going to review and find a conclusion whether you should go for this phone or not. As far as looks are concerned, this looks a premium device but as soon as you hold this you are completely wrong. The back looks like glass but it is made up of plastic. Talking about its screen, it has a stunning display with a notch. This makes it a beautiful phone. Vivo is marketing this phone as a camera and music phone. We will find that how good is its camera and how good it sounds. I have also made a list of its pros and cons which I will discuss later.

First of all here are the specifications.
Snapdragon 626 SOC Octa-core processor
6.3" 19:9 Full HD+ LCD Screen
64 GB Internal Storage
Dual Nano Sim + Dedicated micro SD card support
Rear Camera 16MP + 5 MP
Front Camera 24 MP
3260 mAh Battery
Fingerprint scanner
Android 8.1 Oreo

Regarding its camera, I would say it is a good one. Because when I tried shooting some photos in daylight, it came out to be very nice. The photos clicked in artificial lighting are also good. In low light conditions the photos were decent and not bad. But they could have been better. The best part about its camera is its portrait mode. You can even adjust blur effect after clicking the photo. If we talk about it's 24 MP selfie camera, I would say it is a great camera. Just in case I missed a dedicated flash for the front camera. Though it has a screen flash which is good but not great I would say. There is portrait mode available for the front camera as well.
Since it is being marketed as a camera-centric phone I tried testing its video capabilities and surprisingly, it was as very bad. It does not have optical image stabilization or electronic image stabilization. So when you are shooting while walking the video came out to be very shaky and looked really bad. Here are some sample shots.

Now coming to the music part, I tried with both wired and wireless headphones and the sound output is decent I would say. It is not good enough for a music-centric phone. The sound is loud and crisp but it is very basic. There is no sound enhancement present like Dolby etc. Expectations are more when you are buying a phone that says camera and music phone.

Now lets see its pros and cons.

RAM managenet on this device is good.
Screen quality and display are good.
It looks like iPhone. This could be a con too.
The phone is lightweight.
Dual sim with dedicated micro SD card slot.
Cellular call quality is good. Tested this with JIO.
Notification light.
It has DLNA support.
No compromise in sensors department.
Face-unlock and fingerprint work quite fast.

Silly funtouch OS. It is very heavy skin over Android.
No sound enhancement like Dolby etc. since it is a music-centric phone.
Only one speaker at the bottom, a music-centric phone must have a stereo speaker setup.
No front facing LED flash for a 24 MP selfie shooter.
No battery graph where you can find battery consumption details.
No fast charging. You cannot even charge it fast with a fast charger.
No USB type C, still Micro USB charging port.
When using portrait mode, the processing speed is not fast.

This phone is for a person for whom selfie is on the highest priority. Other it should look like an iPhone and can tolerate funtouch OS.
